Round tour Isla Saona, Canto de la Playa & Mano Juan

“This tour is available to guests of Hotel Bavaro, Punta Cana, Bayahibe and Boca Chica”

Saona Island is the largest island in the Dominican Republic. It belongs to the province of La Altagracia and is part of the Parque Nacional del Este. The island is also a great tourist attraction for its beautiful beaches and unspoilt natural beauty. The surface of the island is 110 km ². It has beautiful coral reefs, a large diversity of bird and reptile species, and also has interesting archaeological sites and caves. Its population is approximately 300 people with just 67 families living mainly from fishing and tourism.

TRIP DESCRIPTION: Land transportation to Bayahibe, which takes 90 minutes, then we board the speedboat and continue the journey at sea visiting the most attractive parts of the National Park East. Our first stop is Canto de la Playa, the most beautiful beach of Saona, with white sands and crystalline waters. We can see the most beautiful colours. If you’re lucky you can also see some dolphins. You have three hours to relax and you will have chance to snorkel in crystalline waters where you can see fish in different sizes, crawfish and rajas. The next stop is Mano Juan, the only village of Isla Saona with 300 inhabitants (no ground transportation, no electricity, it is a very picturesque village) where you can see how the people of this small town still manages to live with very limited resources. Then we continue our tour to Catuano beach where we will have a lunch buffet. You can relax and swim on the beach. Our tour continues to the Mangroves and here we can see how the island is separated from the republic. We will see many small fishes, nesting birds and pelicans. Sometimes you can spot large turtles and stingrays among the mangroves. We continue to Playa Escondida, where you can see starfish, you can also enjoy the largest natural pool in the world, known as La Pisicina natural (natural pool) because of its shallow depth (1.5meter-depth), clear water. This is a sandbar extending 400 meters off the coast. Finally, you can enjoy snorkelling again, this time in Playa Bayahibe. This program finishes at 4:00 pm and we will return to our hotels.

Catalinita Island: This corner between Saona island and the mainland is very difficult to explore because it is a reef among the waves of the Atlantic ocean. It covers 0.22 square kilometres (it is actually very modest), that is 22 hectares. Its coastline is 2 km long. Its biggest sizes are its 880 m length and 260 m width. Its surrounding is very clean, swallow and transparent except for its north-eastern part, where the coral reef meets the ocean.
